Russian Federation suffered strategic defeat, Ukraine enters long-term phase of war – Reznikov
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that Ukraine forced the Russian Federation to reduce the scale of its goals to the operational-tactical level, in connection with which the war moved into a long phase.
Reznikov wrote about this on Friday, May 13, on his Facebook page.
– Until May 9, the Russian Federation received a strategic defeat – it was unable to destroy the Ukrainian state through military intervention and a change of power to Russian puppets. We forced it to reduce the scope of targets to the operational-tactical level. Against this background, we are entering a new – long-term phase of the war, – the minister says.
He clarified that in order to win it, we need to carefully plan resources and avoid mistakes by designing power so that the enemy cannot stand it.
Minister Reznikov said that after the Russian open full-scale attack on February 24, Moscow planned, and many in the West shared its opinion, that Ukraine would capitulate in a few days. The Kremlin hoped to establish a new, “Russian” order on Ukrainian land in a few weeks.
However, Ukrainian defenders and the entire Ukrainian people frustrated these plans, rebuffing the invaders.
– They fled from the Zhytomyr region, Kyiv region, Chernihiv region, Sumy region and set new goals for themselves – the capture of the South and East of Ukraine. But this did not happen again. Thanks to the mass heroism of our soldiers, the unity of Ukrainians, and international support, Ukraine survived, – Reznikov stressed.
According to him, the defenders of Mariupol – guardsmen (Azov Regiment), marines, Mariupol Troop Battalion, policemen, border guards, scouts and security service fighters – bought time for the rest of Ukraine, which saved many lives.
Also, the enemy managed to be contained in the JFO zone, as well as in the Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions.
– Izyum, Popasna, Rubizhne, Avdiivka, Maryinka and not only these – are the real cities of Heroes and places of military glory of Ukrainians. The resistance movement in Melitopol, Kherson and other settlements is an important contribution to the common victory, – the minister noted.
According to Reznikov, the tectonic shift also occurred at the international level – thanks to a systemic explanation from the Ukrainian side that we need heavy weapons – armored vehicles, aircraft, tanks, artillery and others – used by NATO countries.
– In a month, Ukraine has passed the integration path in the field of defense, which it could not overcome for 30 years. We are already receiving heavy weapons from partners. In particular, American M777 howitzers of 155 mm caliber are already working at the front. Three months ago it was considered impossible, – Reznikov summed up.
