Russia wants to return the world to a time when people’s lives did not matter – Zelenskyy
– The war in Ukraine is a confrontation between the possible, which Ukrainians and many people in the world need, and the impossible, for which Russia is fighting so desperately. Russia seeks to prevent the free and independent existence of Ukraine.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, addressing the participants of the Asian Security Summit Dialogue Shangri-La.
– The Russian leadership seeks to reject all the achievements of the historical development of mankind, in particular, the system of international law that we have today. And he wants to return to the life of the nineteenth century or even earlier, when it was impossible to ensure the harmonious development and well-being of billions of people. Russia wants to deprive the peoples of the world of confidence in the freedom of navigation, confidence in this basic freedom of peace and prosperity in every corner of our planet, – he stressed.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy added that Russia started against Ukraine, trying to return the world to the old days, when the freedom of peoples and people’s lives did not matter.
According to him, the world must break the ability of Russia and any other country to block the seas and destroy freedom of navigation.
– When it comes to sanctions, we need sanctions. If we are talking about symmetrical measures to limit the maintenance of Russian ships, then we need these measures. Russia must feel that its military policy will have consequences for itself, – the President added.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also called for reform of the United Nations so that all countries adhere to international law. He is convinced that if this reform has already taken place, it would be possible to respond to any aggression.
