Recognizing the Russian Federation as a terrorist state is not a political gesture, but the protection of the world – Zelenskyy
Russia’s main weapon at this stage of the war is terror, including the one that Ukraine saw the day before after the Russian strikes on Olenivka.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during an evening address on July 30.
He said that over the past 24 hours, Ukraine had received many signals from different countries condemning the Russian terrorist act in Olenivka.
– The world sees the truth. And I thank all our partners who are ready to join in establishing all the circumstances of this terrible execution of our prisoners. All evidence of the occupiers’ crimes will be gathered. All those responsible – who coordinated, who organized, who blew up these people, who knew about it – they will all be found. But still, this is not enough now,” – said the President.
He stressed that the international community must take legal action against the terrorist state.
– Political condemnation of this mass murder is not enough. What kind of relationship can one have with a terrorist after that? What kind of business can there be with such a country? Ukrainian diplomats and all Ukraine’s friends abroad will become even more active in tracking down and destroying all ties of the terrorist state with the free world, which Russia still uses,” – said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The President noted that formal legal recognition of Russia as a terrorist state, particularly by the United States State Department, is needed not as a “political gesture” but as “an effective defense of the free world.
– Such a decision would automatically complicate the existence of the terrorist state, severing the various political and business ties that Russia would otherwise retain. And this will all happen completely. It will have to be done – the only question is the timing and format of this decision. And the sooner it happens, the less evil Russia will have time to do,” – said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Ukrainian leader added that the same motivation is important now for all Ukrainians remaining in the areas of brutal fighting in the Donbas.
– At this war stage, terror is Russia’s main weapon. And therefore, the main task of every Ukrainian, every defender of freedom and humanity in the world, is to do everything to isolate the terrorist state and to protect more people from Russian strikes,” – he summarized.
We will remind you that the terrorist act of the Russian Federation in Olenivka, in the Donetsk region, which the president spoke about, took place on July 29, when the occupying forces attacked a colony in which Ukrainian prisoners of war were held.
More than 50 people were killed as a result of the attack, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. At the same time, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported that at least 130 wounded Ukrainian servicemen in captivity were known.
The Security Service of Ukraine released evidence that Russian occupiers carried out the attack in Olenivka.
