ZNPP reconnected to the power system of Ukraine – IAEA

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reports that the external power supply to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was restored two days after ZNPP completely lost access to external power sources after shelling by Russian troops.
Thus, on November 4, around 10 p.m., the 750 kV line to all six ZNPP power units was resumed, while the eight operating emergency diesel generators were shut down and put on standby.
The 750 kV line now again supplies power to six ZNPP reactors – this is necessary for reactor cooling and other important nuclear safety functions.
The IAEA notes that it sees no changes in the operating status of all power units. Units five and six are in semi-hot shutdown mode and are supplying steam to the site.
Steps are being taken to further heat both units to hot shutdown status. The remaining four units remain in cold shutdown mode.
– The repeated power outages demonstrate the grave nuclear safety situation facing this major nuclear power plant. So far, the courageous team of Zaporizhzhia NPP has always managed to maintain the safe operation of six power units. But it cannot go on like this, – commented Rafael Grossi, IAEA Director General.
He added that he has repeatedly called for urgently creating a nuclear safety protection zone around Zaporizhzhia NPP to prevent a nuclear accident.
– We can not afford to waste any more time. We have to act before it is too late, – emphasized Grossi.
We would remind you that on November 2 at 11:04 p.m., the Zaporizhzhia NPP was completely de-energized due to enemy shelling.
