The accumulation of troops continues: Nayev explained whether there is a threat of an offensive from Belarus
The situation on the northern border of Ukraine is currently under control. At the same time, the accumulation of a joint group of troops of the Russian Federation and Belarus is observed.
The Commander informed this of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Serhiy Nayev.
– Today the situation in the Northern operational zone is under control. But the accumulation of the allied group of troops continues on the territory of Belarus, – he said.
Nayev stressed that the Ukrainian military are constantly monitoring the situation and preparing for an adequate response.
– Currently, there is no threat from Belarus yet, – Nayev stressed.
The work carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine should increase the stability of defense on the northern border and adequate response to the growing threat from the aggressor.
According to Nayev, if the military threat from the north increases, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine can strengthen the grouping of Ukrainian troops in this direction with additional forces and means. Everything will depend “on the quantitative and qualitative composition” of the threat from the occupiers.
Recently, Ukrainian intelligence reported no signs of creating a powerful strike group in Belarus for a repeated offensive against Ukraine. Russia has deployed about 9 thousand servicemen on the territory of Belarus.
Analysts of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believe that the Russian Federation is moving equipment to Belarus not because it is preparing for hostilities from its territory but to train its troops.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry stated that Russia may consider a new invasion from the north as a backup option.
