SAMP-T air defense systems may enter: Italy announced the preparation of a new aid package for Ukraine
Italy is preparing a new package of aid to Ukraine and is negotiating with France regarding air defense. Currently, the shipment of jointly produced air defense systems is being discussed.
This was announced by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
– The sixth package of military aid to Ukraine is still under discussion. We are discussing with the French the points of improvement of assistance from the point of view of sending air defense systems, which are based on joint developments between Rome and Paris, – said the minister.
In addition, Tajani noted with regret that “even the truce was concluded by Putin for domestic purposes and unilaterally.”
– We must continue to work for peace, but all these signs do not allow us to be optimistic. There are some international players, such as China, Turkey and the United States, who could change the situation at the diplomatic level, but there are no real manifestations of openness from the Russian side yet, – he said.
The head of the Italian Foreign Ministry also stated about constant contacts with Washington in matters of assistance to Ukraine.
It will be recalled that in October, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to Italy and France with a request to provide Ukraine with SAMP-T air defense systems.
