The power deficit is increasing: what is the light situation on January 25

On January 25, due to the cold weather in Ukraine, electricity consumption is increasing, and, accordingly, the power deficit is increasing.
Those power plants operating as of today cannot fully cover consumption.
Daily limits have been established for all regional energy companies, taking into account which they form schedules of scheduled hourly outages.
According to Ukrenergo, during the day, enemy artillery damaged the energy infrastructure in the front-line areas in the South and East.
Where the military has given permission, repair work is ongoing.
– Ukrenergo, electricity producers and oblenergo are constantly working to restore damaged facilities affected by enemy attacks.
However, after each subsequent attack by the Russians on the energy infrastructure, recovery becomes more difficult and lasts longer, – Ukrenergo explains.
How the war affected the energy system of Ukraine
Ukraine’s energy system has already withstood 12 enemy missile attacks and 14 drone strikes on energy facilities.
In particular, the last Russian attack on January 14 caused significant damage to several power units of thermal power plants.
More than 10 GW of the main installed capacities are currently inaccessible to the Ukrainian energy system, as they are under the control of the enemy.
These are the largest in Ukraine and Europe: Zaporizhzhia NPP, Zaporizhzhia TPP, Luhansk TPP, Vugleghirska TPP, Kakhovska HPP.
The majority of wind and solar power plants are also concentrated in the temporarily occupied territories of the south.
In addition to the NPP, the rest of the power plants are key regulating capacities. They provide cover for consumption during the morning and evening peak hours, where the current shortage is greatest.
