Zelenskyу was awarded the title of Person of the Year by the Polish publication Wprost
President Volodymyr Zelenskyу and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken won the Person of the Year 2022 award according to the Polish weekly Wprost.
This time, the award went to several people who had the greatest impact on economic, social and political reality, the publication writes.
This year’s Wprost Man of the Year Award was given for fighting on behalf of the civilized world for a free Europe, for faith when others had none, for perseverance when defeats occurred, and for hope when doubts arose.
– And first of all for the victory of Ukraine, which simply had to come, – with these words the award was announced.
In addition to Ukrainian and American politicians, the Man of the Year award went to Polish Minister of Defense Mariusz Blaszczak.
– Thanks to his efforts, the Polish army entered the top twenty of the prestigious Global Firepower rating – the largest military powers in the world. The Dutch press writes about Poland as the new military superpower of Europe, and the German Die Welt calls the Polish army the strongest on the continent, – the newspaper writes.
At the same time, Wrpost points out that today it is Poland’s strong military and leadership position on NATO’s eastern flank that is the best guarantee of Polish security and the most effective way to deter Russia and help Ukraine.
The publication notes that the “Person of the Year” award is given to individuals who had the greatest impact on our economic, social and political reality last year.
– However, 2022 was a special year. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine brought Poland and all of Europe to the most difficult moment in its recent history. The security of our country has become a priority. That is why this year the Person of the Year award has three winners. These are the three people who made the biggest contribution to improving security in our region, – the message says.
In turn, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken was awarded the honorary title of Person of the Year by Wprost in recognition of the importance of Polish-American relations in the face of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
– We appreciate that at the moment of testing, American diplomacy did not succumb to any temptation to maintain the status quo in relations with an aggressive neighbor, which is the best measure of the correctness of our geopolitical choice – the editors argued their choice.
In this way, the USA responds to the violation of the principles of peaceful coexistence in Europe in a manner appropriate to the situation and demonstrates that the violence of authoritarian regimes will always be resisted, and their crimes will be punished, and that the result of such aggression can only be the expansion of the sphere of freedom and democracy, the newspaper added.
