GUR explains why international organizations do not participate in prisoner exchanges

The Russians do not allow international organizations to participate in prisoner exchanges, which is why these issues are resolved only between Ukraine and Russia.
This was reported by Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, during a telethon.
According to him, the aggressor country does not allow the Red Cross to check the conditions of detention of our prisoners of war.
– Russia violates the basic requirements of the Geneva Conventions and International Law. In particular, it does not provide information on the whereabouts of prisoners. The International Committee of the Red Cross often tries to take an active part in these processes, but without the consent of the Russian Federation it is hardly possible,” said Yusov.
The GUR representative noted that because of this, Ukraine mostly solves the issue of exchanges on its own and bilaterally.
– “It is difficult because the Geneva Conventions, on the one hand, do not directly provide for or require exchanges until the end of the war, and on the other hand, we are dealing with an enemy that manipulates and interprets these conventions at its own discretion,” he added.
Yesterday, on February 16, a new prisoner exchange took place, as a result of which 100 Ukrainian defenders and one civilian returned home.
