Portugal will send Leopard tanks to Ukraine: the Ministry of Defense announced the terms
Portugal is ready to send three Leopard 2 A6 battle tanks to Ukraine in March 2023.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Portugal, writes CNN.
The decision was made within the framework of interaction with allies and partners.
It is noted that several countries have offered to provide tanks to Ukraine, but not all have confirmed the number they plan to send.
– A significant part of southern and eastern Ukraine, where most of the heavy fighting is taking place, is an ideal area for connecting modern Western tanks and armored fighting vehicles for conducting a counteroffensive, – the publication says.
In addition, the Leopard 2, Abrams and British Challengers are equipped with large-caliber machine guns that could destroy infantry in open terrain.
Another advantage of Leopard 2 tanks is that ammunition for the 120 mm gun is widely available among NATO armies.
