Almost 200 thousand people left Crimea for 9 years of occupation – Tasheva

Over the nine years of occupation, about 200 thousand people have left the territory of Crimea.
This was stated by the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Tamila Tasheva, in an interview with the website Vikna on the Day of Resistance of Crimean Tatars to Russian Occupation.
The Crimean Tatar human rights activist emphasizes that these figures are approximate.
In 2014, more than 35 thousand citizens left the peninsula. During 2014-2022, according to official data, 54 thousand people left, but probably twice as many – about 100 thousand people – actually left.
On the eve of the full-scale invasion, another 60 to 80 thousand people left Crimea.
– After February 24, 2022, it was impossible to keep count, – Tamila Tasheva states.
Most of the indigenous people of Crimea, says the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, remained on their land, secretly helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
– The Crimean Tatars had a very long and challenging way to return to their homes after the deportation, so now people are trying to hold on to their native land, – Tamila Tasheva explains.
The only reason why indigenous people leave their homes is political persecution.
At least 180 people have been imprisoned in Crimea since the full-scale invasion, 116 of which are Crimean Tatars.
Since the law on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces came into force on March 4, 2022, at least 150 people have been persecuted in Crimea.
In addition, Ukrainian citizens have been fined almost 9 million Russian rubles for “violating” this law.
February 26 is the Day of Resistance of Crimean Tatars to Russian Occupation in Ukraine.
On this day in 2014, at the call of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, thousands of Crimean Tatars, Ukrainians, and representatives of other nationalities protested against the Russian occupation.
The full-scale war in Ukraine has been going on for 368 days.
