It will be extended to 2 km and mined: Ukraine will strengthen its border with Belarus and Russia

The Verkhovna Rada has recently passed a law by a majority vote that provides for the expansion of Ukraine’s border with Belarus and Russia to 2 km, which will be mined and subject to special regime.
Andriy Demchenko, a spokesman for the State Border Guard Service, said this during a telethon.
– In particular, a simplified procedure for allocating land up to 2 km wide has been established on the border with the aggressor country and Belarus. It also regulates the activities of the Defense Forces on the state border in wartime and peacetime,” he explained.
According to him, a border strip is actually established along the border line, within which a special regime of land use is in effect.
– As a rule, the border strip is 30-50 meters in all sections of the state border, and with Russia and Belarus, this strip will be up to 2 km. In some places, it may be less, depending on the landscape and the threat of the direction,” added Demchenko.
He emphasized that the land along this border strip is provided to military units of the State Border Guard Service for the construction of engineering and defense facilities.
Demchenko assured that no one will evict local residents in this two-kilometer strip, where a special regime is being established, but that permits will be issued for movement and activities in these areas.
However, the mechanism itself is still being worked out and will be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers after the law comes into force.
