Extremely fierce fighting continues for the town of Bakhmut (Donetsk region). Ukrainian troops are trying to prevent the enemy from encircling the town.

This was reported by the Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi. On Sunday, March 5, he again visited the military units defending Bakhmut.

According to Syrsky, the fighting for the city has reached “the highest level of tension.” Russia has deployed new mercenaries from the Wagner PMC there.

– The enemy has sent additional Wagner forces into the battle. Our soldiers are bravely defending their positions in the north of Bakhmut, trying to prevent the city from being surrounded,” the general emphasized.

Syrskyi reminded that the resistance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the bridgehead near Bakhmut has been going on for several months. During this time, the enemy made unsuccessful attempts to capture the city.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces inflicted significant losses on Russian troops, reducing their offensive potential.

– “The enemy’s attempts to capture the city were defeated by the resilience of our soldiers. Our defenders inflicted significant losses on the enemy, destroyed a large amount of equipment, forced Wagner’s best assault units to fight and reduced the enemy’s offensive potential” noted Syrsky.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Army released a video of the battle for Bakhmut.

In the recording, soldiers of the 93rd separate mechanized brigade Kholodnyi Yar drive close to the enemy to shoot their hideouts, Ukrainian artillery hits the occupiers’ concentration, and infantry fights for every meter of the city during contact battles.

– Ukrainian troops have not left Bakhmut. The city is holding on,” the video caption reads.

As it is known, on March 6, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a regular meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff. The meeting participants reviewed the situation in Bakhmut in detail. Both the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyi and Oleksandr Syrskyi supported the continuation of the defense operation in the city and further strengthening of Ukrainian positions.
