The director of the IAEA will visit Zaporizhzhia NPP next week

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, will visit the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZAEP) next week. This was reported by the press service of the organization.
It is noted that Grossi wants to personally assess the seriousness of the nuclear safety situation at the ZNPP, as well as emphasize the urgent need to protect the plant against the background of the military conflict in Ukraine.
This visit will be Grossi’s second visit to a nuclear facility and the first since he established the permanent presence of agency experts at the ZNPP on September 1 last year.
— I decided to visit the ZNPP again to see with my own eyes how the situation has developed since September, and to talk with those who work at the facility in these unprecedented and very difficult circumstances.
I remain determined to continue doing everything in my power to help reduce the risk of a nuclear accident during the tragic war in Ukraine, Grossi said.
According to him, despite the fact that the IAEA mission has been working at the site of the plant for seven months, the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP remains unstable, as before.
General Director Grossi noted that his trip to Ukraine is also aimed at ensuring a regular rotation of IAEA experts on and off the site. He will be accompanied by a new group of IAEA experts, the seventh since the establishment of the IAEA Support and Assistance Mission in Zaporizhzhia.
