The EU should speed up the supply of ammunition to Ukraine, as Ukrainian troops need 1,000 artillery shells every day in the Bakhmut area alone.

This was stated by EU diplomat Josep Borrell after a meeting of EU foreign ministers with their Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba.

He noted that Kuleba had told his EU counterparts at a meeting in Stockholm that Kyiv needed additional support to defend itself against Russian aggression.

– Of course, we have to speed up the support. He (Kuleba – Ed.) only gave me a figure: in the area of Bakhmut, where the fighting is going on, Ukraine needs about 1,000 artillery shots a day. 1000 a day, in Bakhmut alone. To get an idea of the intensity of the fighting and the firepower of Russia and how Ukrainians can withstand this continuous and systematic bombardment, – Borrell said.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry clarified that Minister Kuleba’s speech referred to 1,000 long-range shells and that this was the figure the EU diplomat was referring to.

When asked how the EU could speed up the delivery, Borrell said that member states would have to draw on their own stockpiles and overcome logistical difficulties.

– I am confident that the conversation with Minister Kuleba will be passed on to the capitals by the foreign ministers. I asked everyone to pass this message on to the defense ministers. The flow (of ammunition – Ed.) continues.

I am confident that it will increase because we have the financial capacity. It’s not a question of financing, it’s a question of logistics. But you know, war is about logistics. Today, if we do not supply Ukraine with ammunition, Ukraine will not be able to defend itself. We will accelerate, – Borrell promised.

He said that Ukraine especially needs long-range munitions, “because the Russians are bombing from far away.”

– Ukrainians should be able to achieve… the same range, – Borrell said.
