To assess the situation after the explosion of Kakhovka HPP: Grossi goes to ZNPP

The IAEA mission headed by Director General Rafael Grossi is heading to Zaporizhzhya NPP to assess the situation at the plant after the Russians blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station.
Grossi announced this at a briefing in Kyiv.
– “I want to make my own assessment, I want to go there, discuss with the local authorities what measures they are taking, and then make a more definitive assessment of what data we have,” he said.
Grossi explained that the drop in water in the tanks at ZNPP is a serious situation, as there is a limit beyond which it will be impossible to pump water from the reservoir to the site.
The IAEA head also plans to assess and make recommendations on the discrepancy between the actions of the Russians who control ZNPP and the instructions to Ukraine, in particular on the issue of putting the power units into a “cold shutdown”.
– We need to see if we can get the water pumped back in and look at other alternatives. There are alternatives, and this also needs to be discussed. Whether it works online like the rest of the outside of the plant, I don’t know. I will have to see,” he said.
The IAEA Director General will spend several hours at ZNPP, rotate and leave a team of four people.
According to him, the agency’s representatives are trying to make their presence at the plant as visible and influential as possible to prevent a nuclear accident.
Grossi also informed that he had received security guarantees from both the Ukrainian and Russian sides.
