Ukrainian border guards have not yet observed any possible construction of bases for the Russian military or mercenaries in Belarus.

Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, told this in a commentary to Fakty ICTV.

He emphasized that the situation on the border with Belarus remains quite tense, given that this country continues to support Russia in the war against Ukraine.

Directly along the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, the situation remains under control. No movement of equipment or manpower of the Russian or Belarusian armies has been observed on the territory of Belarus.

– As for the reports of possible construction of bases for Russian mercenaries who are to enter or have already entered the territory of Belarus, we have not recorded this at this time. Of course, we cannot exclude this (construction – Ed.),” said Andriy Demchenko and emphasized that Ukrainian intelligence is closely monitoring the situation.

According to the border guards, there are up to 2,000 Russian soldiers on the territory of Belarus, who were previously stationed there. They are involved in training exercises at training grounds.

At the moment, no additional forces have been deployed to the territory of Russia.

Andriy Demchenko added that Russia does not have enough forces in Belarus to re-invade Ukraine, as the available number of troops does not allow them to do so.

Earlier, Russian opposition media wrote that several new camps are being built in Belarus to accommodate Wagnerites.
