Turkey did not put forward any conditions regarding the return of Mariupol defense commanders to Ukraine.
The Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey, Vasyl Bodnar, announced this on Radio Svoboda.
He noted that Turkey is interested in this return operation, because in this way the state strengthens its position in the international arena.
– Of course, the role of Turkey in this process is also important. Because the country’s ratings are rising. Let’s not think that this is just a kind gesture towards Ukraine, – he said.
Bodnar added that this return is also a strengthening of Turkey’s position in communication with Russia.
According to him, negotiations regarding the return of the commanders lasted several months, and “the entire diplomatic vanguard” was involved in this process.
– President Zelenskyy held talks with President Erdogan not only during the visit, but there were several phone calls beforehand, there were contacts, of course, wherever such contacts could be found, – Bodnar concluded.
