For economic recovery: Ukraine to receive $1.5bn loan from the World Bank

Ukraine will receive a $1.5 billion loan from the World Bank under the guarantee of the Japanese government.

This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

– “The World Bank and the Ministry of Finance have just signed a corresponding agreement during our meeting with World Bank Vice President Antonella Bassani,” he wrote on Telegram.

According to Shmyhal, the funds are intended to strengthen social protection and provide assistance to people during the war and to restore the economy.

The Prime Minister also said that in total, the World Bank Group, together with its partners, has mobilised $34 billion to help Ukraine, of which more than $22 billion has already been transferred to the budget.

– “We are particularly grateful for the largest investment project in the Bank’s history, PEACE in Ukraine, which helps finance social benefits and pensions. We appreciate our close cooperation and look forward to further joint projects for the recovery and development of Ukraine,” added Shmyhal.
