Musienko explains under what conditions a new Russian offensive on Kyiv is possible
The other day, the Financial Times wrote, citing Ukrainian security officials, that Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin is not ruling out another attempt to seize Kharkiv or even Kyiv.
According to U.S. intelligence, Russia’s ultimate goal remains unchanged: the seizure of Ukraine.
As long as the war continues, there will always be risks of a repeat offensive by the Russian occupiers, said Oleksandr Musienko, head of the Center for Military Legal Studies, in an exclusive interview with Fakty ICTV.
– The Ukrainian capital will always be in the enemy’s special sights and focus. It so happens that the very status of the capital in wars, they try to hit it first. It is the center of decision-making,” he said.
Is a new attack on Kyiv possible
Musienko noted that theoretically, we cannot rule out the possibility of a full-scale Russian offensive on Kyiv. However, today there is no reason to believe that Russia is preparing a new offensive on the Ukrainian capital.
– Because the concentration of troops in the three regions bordering the territory of Ukraine is about 17 thousand, up to a maximum of 20 thousand. This is not the contingent that is advancing, this is the contingent that is taking measures to cover the border. In addition, there are Russian military there to restrain our units,” the expert added.
The head of the Center for Military Legal Studies also said that the Russian military occasionally conducts raids by subversive groups on the territory of Ukraine.
They try to enter 1-2 km of the territory of Sumy and Chernihiv regions in small groups. Therefore, these areas are heavily guarded by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
