The President of Ukraine proposed to the Rada to ratify the Istanbul Convention

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi has submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a bill on ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women, Domestic Violence, also known as the Istanbul Convention.
The relevant document is published on the website of the Ukrainian government. Ukrainian media claim that MPs may consider the bill on June 20.
Some EU member states have unofficially voiced a demand for ratification of the Istanbul Convention as a precondition for approving Ukraine’s candidate status for EU membership.
The Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence is an international instrument signed in 2011. This is an agreement that legally obliges to create a legal basis for combating violence.
States that have acceded to the Convention must criminalize psychological violence, harassment, physical and sexual violence, forced marriage, forced abortion and sterilization. Ukraine signed the Istanbul Convention in 2011, but has not yet ratified it.
ICTV Facts also actively covers the topic of domestic violence in a special project and helps with information, urging not to remain silent.
