Approximately 130,000 local residents now remain in Chernihiv. After the start of the war in Ukraine, about 150-155 thousand people left the city.

The mayor of Chernihiv, Vladyslav Atroshenko, noted that the city is fixing problems with the repair of critical infrastructure.

– We do not keep an exact count, but according to my feelings, approximately 130 thousand people remain in the city. Before the war there were 285 thousand people, so approximately 150-155 thousand people left.

Now there are very few people left in the city who can really repair critical infrastructure facilities, there are problems with this. Among the remaining people, a significant part of those who are simply not able to cope, – said the mayor of Chernihiv.

According to the Chernihiv Regional State Administration, dozens of orphans deprived of parental care were evacuated from the city, and other vulnerable categories left the region and are now safe.

Students from boarding schools were taken to the Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, where social workers and representatives of charitable foundations will take care of them.

Patients of the regional children’s hospital were evacuated to Kyiv. Centralized full-scale evacuation still remains dangerous due to the high risk of shelling, the Chernihiv Regional State Administration noted.
