Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Ukraine has lost 4,8 million employment places, 30% of the pre-war volume.

The same was listed in the report by the special UN unit — the International Work Organization.

According to the IWO assessment, if hostilities escalate, the number of canceled employments in Ukraine will reach 7 million monthly. However, if the peace establishes immediately, it would be possible to restore 3,4 million employees. In this way, the level of unemployment could be decreased to 8,9% only.

The experts noted that from the start of the full-scale war, more the 5,23 million Ukrainians fled to the neighboring countries. Mostly they are women, kids, and people over 60 years old. Approximately 2,75 million people are of working age, 43,5% (1,2 mln) of them used to have a job before but have lost or left the position.

In addition, the report noted that the war in Ukraine could lead to job disruptions in neighboring countries, including Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia. If refugees wouldn’t return home, these countries’ labor markets and social security systems will increase pressure.

At the same time, experts stressed that the war in Ukraine had affected the situation with the coronavirus, from which the world economy has not yet fully recovered. Even the highest-income countries are experiencing deteriorating working conditions and economic problems.
