The Ukrainian army in the Kharkiv region almost drove the occupiers to the Russian border – ISW

Ukrainian defense forces continued their counteroffensive in northern Kharkiv, successfully pushing the occupying forces to the Russian border. This is stated in the summary on May 10 of the Institute for the Study of War.
It is noted that Ukrainian troops liberated several cities north of Kharkiv and continued advancing north of the recently liberated Stary Saltov.

It is reported that Russian troops from Izyum are redeploying to the north to try to ease the pressure of this counteroffensive and to stop further advance north to the Russian border.
The Ukrainian counteroffensive is likely to continue to distract Russian troops and resources from deploying to other areas of advance where hostilities are just as successfully hampered by Ukraine’s defenses, – the statement said.
Experts also predict that counter-offensive actions by the Ukrainian Armed Forces will stop Russian artillery attacks on the northeastern outskirts of Kharkiv and potentially allow Ukrainian defenders to attack the Russian rear.
It is also noted that the Ministry of Defense of Belarus has intensified its false statements about the preparation of the United States and NATO to attack Belarus, announcing the beginning of the second phase of military exercises. However, experts note that Belarus is unlikely to join the war in Ukraine.
On May 6, the Institute for the Study of War stressed that a Ukrainian counteroffensive near Kharkiv could disrupt Russian forces northeast of Kharkiv and likely force Russian forces to decide whether to strengthen their position near Kharkiv or risk losing most or all of their forces positions within reach of the city’s artillery.
