Ukraine will try another 48 Russian servicemen – Venediktova

Another 48 Russian servicemen will stand trial in Ukraine for war crimes. Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova stated this during a World Economic Forum in Davos speech.

She said that Ukraine has a list of about 600 suspects in war crimes.

– We have already initiated about 13 thousand cases related only to war crimes. Forty-nine people have been declared suspects in this category.

Two cases against three suspects are already pending before the courts.

On May 23, the court passed the first sentence to the Russian occupier for war crimes in Ukraine. The Pecherskyi district court of Kyiv convicted Russian Vadim Shishimarin of murdering a civilian in the Sumy region.

Shishimarin was sentenced to life imprisonment. The court convicted him under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war).
