They beat on the fingers, strangled and tortured: Denisova about the atrocities of the Russian Federation against Ukrainian defenders

The aggressor country, Russia, is torturing and ill-treating Ukrainian defenders who are being held captive. Most of our military occupiers were taken prisoner near Mariupol.
The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lyudmyla Denisova noted that at first our defenders were kept in basements and outbuildings. Then they were transferred to the guardhouse, the pre-trial detention center in Donetsk and the №120 correctional colony in the temporarily occupied territory. Later, our servicemen were transferred to the Taganrog and Voronezh pre-trial detention centers.
– During the transfer, Ukrainian soldiers were blindfolded, put on a sack over their heads, and tied their hands with ropes. In captivity, Ukrainian servicemen were tortured, threatened with murder, beaten and humiliated. Torture was used with special cruelty against officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and soldiers of the Azov Special Forces, – Denisova said.
During interrogations, Ukrainian prisoners of war were brought to their knees, beaten on the toes and open wounds with a machine gun, used pliers, slapped on the neck and strangled. The Russian military electrocuted Ukrainian defenders, beat them with a mallet and kicked them.
Ukrainian servicemen reported that the enemy army administered unknown drugs to them, after which they fainted and lost their memory. The occupiers forced Ukrainian soldiers to learn the anthem of the Russian Federation, the history of the creation of the coat of arms and the flag of the Russian Federation, otherwise – used torture and torture.
Our women prisoners of war, who were detained in the Donetsk pre-trial detention center, said that the cells were deprived of hygiene and the opportunity to wash. They were subjected to psychological pressure – Ukrainian captive men were brutally beaten in front of them, and women were forced to have sexual intercourse.

Vital Ukrainian servicemen were not provided with vital medical care. Ukrainians were given almost no water, only 1.5 liters for 30-40 people, limited in food. In the ORDO, the daily diet consisted of a piece of bread and lard, sometimes giving meat, the Russian military mocked and said it was human.
The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner stressed that Russia’s criminal actions violated the rights of the Ukrainian military, guaranteed by the provisions of Articles 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24-27, 29-31, 46, 48, 69-71 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Lyudmyla Denisova appealed to the UN Commission to Investigate Human Rights Violations during the full-scale military invasion of the Russian Federation to take into account the facts of violations of the rights of Ukrainian citizens by the aggressor country.
