NATO base in Severodonetsk: Leshchenko debunked another fake of the Russian Federation

Russian state media are actively spreading the fake news that Ukraine planned to build a NATO military base on the territory of Severodonetsk.
Serhiy Leshchenko, adviser to the head of the Office of the President, announced this at the briefing. He noted that Russia is trying to justify its actions with the help of this fake.
– Russian propagandists say that this airfield was supposed to be the point of attack and further dismemberment of Russia. Through such statements, the aggressor state tries to explain its actions against Ukraine. Like, it was self-defense. Of course, this is a lie and Ukraine had no such plans to open a NATO base on the territory of Severodonetsk, – Leshchenko emphasized.
According to the adviser to the head of the President’s Office, it is impossible to do this, because NATO bases can only be opened on the territory of the states that are members of the Alliance.
– The stories tell about the fact that some documents were allegedly found, although in fact it is about the repair of the airport premises, which should have been done during the times when this territory was controlled by Ukraine, that is, before the invaders arrived, – Leshchenko added.
