60% of internally displaced persons (IDPs) have lost their jobs since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine.

This is evidenced by the data of a study conducted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) from July 17 to 23.

At the same time, 9% of internally displaced persons have not had any income since the beginning of the war (since February 24), and 35% reported that their family’s monthly income does not exceed UAH 5,000, which is UAH 1,500 less than the minimum wage in Ukraine.

Watching now

The situation with the employment of IDPs is quite critical and becomes one of the reasons that encourage people to return home.

– More than 6.6 million people in Ukraine are internally displaced, according to the data. This figure is 15% of the total population of Ukraine and has slightly increased compared to the end of June, when IOM counted about 6.3 million IDPs. People continue to leave the east, south and north of Ukraine, -the report says.

It is noted that 5.5 million previously displaced people have returned home: most of them were displaced in the territory of Ukraine and 16% returned from abroad.

The main regions of return are Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast, as well as Kharkiv, Odesa, and Chernihiv Oblasts.
