Ukrainian gambling market under war conditions
Today, the majority of the legal domestic online casinos:
- continue to operate online all over the entire country;
- actively develop their activities on the Internet;
- attract foreign investments;
- actively participate in the information campaign to inform the world about the war in Ukraine;
- pay taxes and licensing fees;
- cooperate with foreign operators to do charity work.
For only 4 months the gaming industry in total was able to contribute to the state budget more than half of the amount, which was built for it until 2023. This amount was over 600 million hryvnias.
The most popular gambling brands with a license:
- Vbet casino – gambling company vbet.ua, the general sponsor of the UPL, also obtained a license for betting activities.
- Slots City – an online casino, you can find a review with Ukrainian roots and wonderful production on YouTube. The name of the channel is “Slots City Show”.
Scandal around 1xBet
1xBet bookmaker has the status of one of the main players in the Russian online sports betting and online casinos market.
The company actively cooperates with the Russian public figures who supported the Russian military attack on Ukraine.
This situation has forced an active part of the Ukrainian public to start fighting against 1xBet company, which recently entered the domestic market of sports betting.
Ukrainians in only 7 days collected 25,000 votes for the petition to ban the Russian gambling operator 1xBet and to cancel its license for betting activities and online casinos in Ukraine.
The petition on the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky’s website was filed on July 8 and as of July 15, it was signed by 25 713 people.
Now the President of Ukraine is obliged to consider the petition and to respond to its questions.
Major changes in the domestic gambling market
Among the significant changes for the domestic online casinos are:
- closure of all payment systems on the aggressor’s side and the cessation of any financial transactions with the Russian Federation;
- end of cooperation with Russian operators and software vendors;
- expanding the collection of games with new themes related to the situation in Ukraine;
- creation of a large number of slot machines tailored specifically to Ukraine.
It should be noted that for many legal Ukrainian operators the closure of Russian payments has not become a novelty, since the war has been going on since 2014 and similar decisions in an individual order were taken long ago.
Future of the Ukrainian gambling market
The gambling business has changed direction on the military one, so the possibility of its future decline is approaching zero.
For now, the main goal of the gambling and entertainment industry is to support the state and the people, continuing to evolve and actively work.
This is extremely important not only during the war but also after the victory because the economy requires both temporary support and renewal after the end of combat operations.
