What assistance is provided to servicemen released from captivity – list

Thousands of defenders of Ukraine are now in Russian captivity. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has conducted about 30 exchanges and released more than 1 thousand Ukrainians.
Fakty ICTV found out what social protection Ukrainian soldiers released from captivity can expect and what assistance is provided to them.
Primary assistance
Immediately after the exchange, the released defenders receive packages with necessary things.
The backpacks are assembled separately for men and women – taking into account their needs. Each contains clothes, shoes, hygiene products, food, water. Almost all the goods are from Ukrainian manufacturers.
There is also a smartphone in the backpack so that the soldiers can call their relatives and quickly update their personal documents in the Diya and access to bank accounts.
Treatment and rehabilitation
Ukrainian soldiers who were held in Russian captivity need proper treatment and rehabilitation.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs notes that as soon as they get to Ukraine, they are examined by doctors and together with law enforcement officers record the condition in which the soldiers returned.
Also, the soldiers have the opportunity to undergo long-term, comprehensive rehabilitation at public expense. At the stage of early rehabilitation they are provided with primary medical and psychological assistance.
After that, the defenders are sent to medical rehabilitation centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. There they and their family members can receive more professional treatment and assistance. Depending on the condition and needs of the person, doctors form an individual treatment program, and psychotherapists determine the necessary methods of work.
In most cases, soldiers undergo the second stage of recovery in departmental health care facilities. If necessary, they can be sent for treatment abroad.
Payments and assistance
On November 16, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution that improves the procedure for social and legal protection of defenders released from Russian captivity.
The resolution was approved:
- Regulations on the Commission on establishing the fact of deprivation of personal liberty as a result of armed aggression against Ukraine – this commission will work under the Ministry of Reintegration and will decide on compensation from the state budget for the costs of legal assistance to illegally imprisoned Ukrainian citizens of the Russian Federation.
- The procedure for appointment and payment of assistance to such persons and their family members.
- The procedure for maintaining the Register of those released from captivity.
