All that is needed is political will: Latvia supports the creation of a special tribunal for the Russian Federation

The international community should create a special tribunal to investigate Russian military aggression against Ukraine.
This was announced by the President of Latvia, Egils Levits. In his opinion, the fact that the investigation of the invasion of the Russian Federation is still not within the competence of any international court is a gap in international law.
He is convinced that the creation of a special tribunal is possible from a legal point of view, it only requires political will.
Also, Egils Levits proposed to create legal opportunities in order to direct Russian assets frozen by Western countries to the restoration of Ukraine.
The President of Latvia emphasized that this would be only an obvious manifestation of elementary justice. According to him, Europe needs to properly invest in its defense and show solidarity with those who fight for democracy and European values.
We will remind you that the other day the Czech Republic also advocated the creation of a special tribunal over the top leadership of the Russian Federation. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country Jan Lipavsky.
He is convinced that any political leaders of the state should be responsible for the resolution of the war, so now is not the time to talk about peace.
