The USA allowed the first transfer of assets confiscated from the Russian Federation in favor of Ukraine

US Attorney General Merrick Garland has authorized the first transfer of confiscated Russian assets for use in Ukraine.
This is stated in Garland’s statement, cited by Reuters.
Last year, the Justice Department charged Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeev with violating sanctions imposed on Russia after its invasion of Ukraine, saying he provided funding to Russians promoting separatism in Crimea.
Then, Garland said, he also announced the “seizure of millions of dollars from an account in an American financial institution traced to Malofeev’s violation of sanctions.”
In February 2023, Merrick Garland stated that he authorized the transfer of this money for use in Ukraine.
– Although this is the first transfer by the United States of confiscated Russian funds for the reconstruction of Ukraine, it will not be the last – he said in his statement.
Previously, more than 300 million hryvnias, which once belonged to the fugitive president Viktor Yanukovych’s son Oleksandr, were transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
