French President Emmanuel Macron has said that allies should help Ukraine with all means to enable it to launch an effective counter-offensive.

He said this during his visit to Slovakia, Barrons reports.

Macron recalled that he had once called the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation a “brain dead” organisation, but added that Russia’s full-scale invasion last year “made NATO wake up.

Watching now

– We must help Ukraine today with all means to launch an effective counter-offensive against Russian forces. That is what we are doing now. We must step up our efforts, because what will happen in the next few months offers a chance for even a lasting peace,” Macron said.

He emphasised that Europe should buy its own weapons and increase the number of long-range vehicles.

– It depends on us, Europeans, to be able to defend ourselves in the future. European support within NATO is essential. This is the only way to gain trust in the long term,” he added.

The French President also said that Western countries should provide Ukraine with security guarantees as the country continues to fight the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation.

Macron is convinced that Ukraine is defending the whole of Europe from Russian invasion, so security guarantees for Ukraine are only in the interests of Western countries.
