Russia may be preparing nuclear terrorist attack: Energoatom’s reaction to Kremlin’s statements about “dirty bomb”
Russian statements about the alleged creation of a “dirty bomb” may indicate that the aggressor is preparing an act of nuclear terrorism on the territory of Zaporizhzhya NPP, according to Energoatom.
Ukrainian nuclear scientists say that two circumstances indicate this.
In particular, the fact that during the last week the occupants have been carrying out unauthorized construction works on the territory of the dry spent fuel storage facility (DSFSF).
– These works are carried out by the Russian military on their own in a secret mode. The invaders do not allow Ukrainian personnel and IAEA representatives present at the ZNPP site to the construction site,” Energoatom emphasizes.
There are 174 containers in the storage facility, each of which contains 24 assemblies of spent nuclear fuel. If the Russians decide to blow them up, a radiation accident will occur, which will contaminate several hundred square kilometers of the adjacent territory.
In addition, for two days Russians have been talking about the alleged preparation of a “dirty nuclear bomb” by Ukraine, for which spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste from ZNPP can be used.
– Energoatom assumes that such actions of the invaders may indicate that they are preparing a terrorist act using nuclear materials and radioactive waste stored at the ZNPP site,” the statement said..
Therefore, our nuclear experts called on the IAEA to assess provocative and threatening actions and statements of Russia as soon as possible.
