Will cover up to 1200 km: a new strike drone will be presented in Ukraine by the end of the year
A new Ukrainian strike drone, the development of which was announced by Ukroboronprom in mid-October, will be presented by the end of 2022.
This was announced today at a briefing by the project manager of the state concern Ukroboronprom Oleh Boldyrev (also known as Martin Brest).
He noted that the concern is currently developing a heavy strike UAV with a total weight of up to 200 kg. It is capable of carrying up to 75 kg of combat charge and flying up to 1,200 km. Boldyrev described the development as a “heavy machine”.
– This is not our only car. This is the one we have already mentioned. We said “A” about it, namely: thousands of kilometers and 75 kg of combat load. I think such a machine will fly normally by the end of this year. We will create the model that we are not ashamed to show to people, – Boldyrev noted.
He specified that the first tests of the UAV have already taken place: the drone took off and successfully landed.
According to Boldyrev, this development is being implemented in response to the task of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyi.
– This is a heavy machine, more than 200 kg of take-off weight. This is a development that meets one of the tasks that were set to us by Valeriy Zaluzhny in early August. There was a certain list of tasks that the complexes needed. This is one of them. I think that by the new year we will make it, present and show it to the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defense as our main, so far the only customer, – explained Boldyrev.
He clarified that it is the customer who will determine whether the new UAV will be put into serial production, what needs to be improved and what deadlines will be set.
Boldyrev also informed that since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, more than 70 new developments of UAVs of various classes have appeared.
Ukroboronprom hinted at the development of a new drone in mid-October. Then it was noted that the new weapon has a range of 1 thousand km, and the weight of the warhead is 75 kg.
