President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on NATO members to guarantee the protection of Ukrainian nuclear power plants from Russian sabotage.

The statement came a day after the temporarily occupied by Russians ZNPP was heavily shelled.

– All our countries are interested in ensuring that there are no dangerous incidents at our nuclear facilities. We all need guaranteed protection against Russian sabotage at nuclear facilities,” Zelenskyy said in a video address to the NATO PA in Madrid.

The temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant was shelled by Russians on Sunday, November 20. This has raised concerns about a potential major accident just 500 km from Chernobyl, the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster that occurred in 1986.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has said such attacks threaten a major catastrophe.

Zelenskiy also called for new EU sanctions against Moscow for its policy of genocide as Russian troops bomb key civilian infrastructure.

Earlier, the Russian dictator’s secretary Dmitry Peskov admitted that Russia bombed Ukrainian infrastructure to persuade Kyiv to negotiate.
