Will protect the sky on the outskirts of Europe: Ignat on Poland’s Patriot initiative

American Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, which Poland proposed to deploy in Ukraine, could significantly strengthen the protection of Ukrainian skies.
This was informed during a telethon by the spokesman of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Ihnat.
He specified that Patriot systems could protect both the territory of Ukraine and Europe.
– And why in Poland? It is possible to deploy (Patriot systems – Ed.) in Ukraine as well. Here is the question to our partners: what steps are they ready to take to protect the Ukrainian border, Ukrainian territory and Europe. To ensure the security of the airspace on the outskirts of Europe,” Ihnat stressed.
He reminded that Patriot systems can shoot down targets within a radius of 150 km.
– It will be a powerful system that will be able to provide airspace coverage in such a radius around it, – Ihnat explained.
He specified that the Patriot systems will not work independently, but will strengthen the existing Ukrainian air defense system. These are Buk-M1, S-300 systems, Air Defense of the Ground Forces, mobile firing groups, fighter aircraft of Ukraine.
– All this in combination with Patriot systems could potentially significantly strengthen the protection of Ukrainian skies, – summed up Ihnat.
As you know, on November 15, during another massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine, a missile fell on the territory of Poland. Then Germany offered Warsaw Patriot systems.
Against the backdrop of new powerful missile attacks on Ukraine on November 23, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak asked Germany to transfer the proposed Patriot systems to Ukraine.
