The energy system of Ukraine can be stabilized by the summer of 2023, which will stop blackouts. However, only on condition that Russia does not carry out new massive missile attacks.

This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko in an interview with Forbes.

– The speed of recovery is related to the shelling. If there is no shelling, even taking into account the already damaged generation, we will stabilize the system by summer. We have a list of solutions that will allow us to do this,” he stressed.

One of such solutions, according to the Minister, is the import of electricity. Ukraine has already tested this option in small volumes.

The Ministry of Energy is now working on a significant increase in electricity imports. As Galushchenko explained, now we are talking about 600 MW (day) and 700 MW (night). And technically it is possible to import much more: 1.6-2 GW.

In addition, a larger number of air defense systems and mobile power plants with a capacity of up to 50 MW will help to restore the power system of Ukraine. The latter can help to get through the winter.

Commenting on the Russian missile attacks on the energy system, Galushchenko said that the occupiers analyze each massive strike, find out how to increase the damage, and then attack again.

– The responsibility will be borne by Russian power engineers who indicate where to strike, in what sequence and when. This is a war crime,” the minister said.

Answering the question about the extremely difficult situation with electricity supply in Kyiv, Galushchenko explained that it is a consequence of the Russian shelling on Monday, December 19.

– “There were very significant damages for Kyiv as a result of shelling. Therefore, the situation in Kyiv is the most difficult now. It is gradually improving, – he assured.

Galushchenko added that despite the Russian attacks, Ukraine’s energy system remains intact. He also expressed the opinion that the Russian occupiers will not be able to plunge the whole country into blackout.

As of the morning of December 22, Ukrenergo reported a significant power shortage in the power system. The most difficult situation remains in the central region and in Kyiv, as well as in the frontline regions in the East and South of Ukraine.
