The National Anti-Corruption Bureau said it was investigating alleged abuses by the Defense Ministry in the procurement of food for the army as part of a criminal investigation.

It noted that the proceedings were initiated jointly with the SAPO based on its own findings before they were published in the media.

– Given the high-profile media reports about possible abuses by the Ministry of Defense in the procurement of food for the military, we would like to inform you that the information provided is known to the NABU and the SAPO. It is being investigated within the framework of criminal proceedings initiated on our own grounds, before being published in the media,” the statement said.

It is reported that, among other things, the investigation is checking procurement for more than UAH 13 billion.

The preliminary legal classification is Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misappropriation or embezzlement of property entrusted to a person or under his or her control by abuse of office in collusion, in wartime).

The NABU emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that other details are secret.

The day before, the Ministry of Defense said that the department was preparing materials for the SBU to investigate the dissemination of deliberately false information that harms the interests of defense in a special period.

This was the Ministry’s response to the media coverage of the alleged procurement of overpriced catering services for military personnel.
