Russia seeks to capture Bakhmut in order to show at least some achievements on the battlefield – the US State Department
The city of Bakhmut in Donetsk region, where the heaviest battles are currently taking place, is not of great strategic importance for the Russian Federation, attempts to capture it are the only opportunity to demonstrate at least some achievements at the front.
This was stated by the spokesman of the US State Department, Ned Price, at the briefing.
According to him, the war against Ukraine will end in a strategic defeat for Russia.
– From the first hours of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it was clearly understood that whenever it ended, it would end in Russia’s strategic failure, – he emphasized.
Earlier, the commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that the battles for Bakhmut had reached “the highest level of tension.” The Russian Federation transferred there new mercenaries of Wagner’s PMС.
