The troops of the Russian Federation do not have enough mechanized forces to advance beyond the borders of Bakhmut – ISW

Russian troops lack the mechanized forces needed to advance beyond Bakhmut in Donetsk region.
This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
It is noted that if the city is captured, the Russian offensive in this region will reach its climax, because due to the lack of opportunities, they will have to choose between two directions of attack: either towards Kostyantynivka, or towards Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
– These two potential lines of attack are not mutually exclusive, and Russian forces that have degraded will likely have to prioritize only one to have any chance of success, although the Russian command has repeatedly over-dispersed its forces across multiple lines of attack throughout the invasion, – the message says.
At the same time, analysts note that Ukrainian troops have strongly fortified both of these roads.
Also, as ISW points out, the Russians likely lack the mechanized forces needed to advance beyond Bakhmut, and the tactical assault units used to assault the city are likely incapable of maneuver warfare.
– It is unlikely that the Russian troops will be able to win more than a tactical victory after 10 months of assaults, – experts add.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyу said that if the Russian troops are able to capture Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, this will open the way for the Russian Federation to capture key cities in the East of Ukraine.
