On Thursday, April 13, the Council of the European Union approved the allocation of €1 billion under the European Peace Facility (EPF) to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This will allow EU member states to reimburse ammunition provided to Ukraine from their stockpiles or by reprioritizing existing orders from February 9 to May 31, 2023, according to the EU Council website.

– “With today’s decision, we are putting into effect the first part of the historic agreement reached by EU leaders to support the immediate delivery of €1 billion worth of artillery ammunition to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. There is no better demonstration of the EU’s unity and determination to continue to support Ukraine’s legitimate right to self-defense against the brutal Russian aggressor,” commented European Diplomat Josep Borrell.

The decision implements the first part of the EU Council agreement of March 20, 2023 on a trilateral approach aimed at accelerating the supply and joint procurement of artillery ammunition.
