The Russian Federation keeps 17,000 troops in the border areas in the north of Ukraine and Belarus – Naev

In the Bryansk and Kursk regions bordering Ukraine, as well as in Belarus, Russia keeps about 17,000 of its troops, the commander of the United Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Serhiy Naev, said.

– To the actions in the northern direction, the enemy involves two groups covering the state border, which are deployed in the southern part of Belarus and in the territories of the Bryansk and Kursk regions of Russia, with a total number of about 17 thousand people, – he clarified.

Also, according to him, there are about 2,800 Russian military personnel on training grounds in Belarus, and planes and helicopters of the Russian Armed Forces are stationed at local military airfields.

At the same time, the general assured that the situation on the northern borders is under control, although the enemy continues to shell the border areas of the Sumy and Chernihiv regions with artillery and carries out aerial reconnaissance for strikes.

– Enemy airstrikes are carried out mainly on military facilities and infrastructure. But, unfortunately, as a result of these strikes, there are numerous cases of destruction of civilian objects and victims among the local population, – Naev added.

The general reported that in the northern direction, work is constantly underway to strengthen the grouping of troops, prepare reserves, re-armament to modern foreign models, improve fortification structures, increase the density of demining border strips, and training is also being conducted.
