Undermining Kakhovskaya HPP. Ukraine will convene an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council – the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Ukraine considers the Russian Federation’s detonation of the Kakhovskaya HPP as a terrorist act against Ukrainian critical infrastructure, which aims to cause the greatest possible number of victims and destruction.
This was reported in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
– Blowing up the Kakhovskaya HPP dam is man-made and ecological terrorism, the biggest man-made disaster in Europe in recent decades, another manifestation of Russia’s genocide against Ukrainians. This is the Kremlin’s response to the countries calling for peace talks with the Russian Federation, – the report says.
It is noted that due to a decrease in the water level in the Kakhovsky reservoir, there may be a danger of an incident at another critical infrastructure facility occupied by Russia, the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the international community to strongly condemn the Russian terrorist attack on the Kakhovskaya HPP. In particular, the ministry appealed to the countries of the Group of Seven and the EU to urgently consider the imposition of new sanctions on the Russian Federation, in particular on the Russian missile industry and the nuclear industry.
The department also emphasizes that Russia must compensate for all the consequences of its crime: both for people and for infrastructure and the environment.
– According to the results of the NSDC meeting on the morning of June 6, the list of actions proposed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in the context of response, which, in particular, provides for convening an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council by Ukraine and bringing the issue of the Russian terrorist attack to the meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors, as well as engagement of the EU civil protection mechanism, – the statement emphasized.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, previously, the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant was blown up by the 205th motorized rifle brigade of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
