Occupants may blow up ZNPP – Podolyak
Russia is using terrorist methods, such as the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, because today there are no military tools to influence the development of events on the front line. Therefore, it must be recognised that there are risks to the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP.
This was stated by Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office.
– “Russia certainly has such an option as ZNPP, and we have to keep talking about it. Because the environmental disaster after the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP is nothing compared to the environmental disaster of the pan-European level if Russia attempts to blow up the ZNPP,” he said.
Podolyak noted that Russia has stated one simple thing through the mouth of dictator Vladimir Putin: look, we subconsciously understand that we will lose the war and leave the territory of Ukraine.
– But what kind of territory of Ukraine will we leave? As much as possible destroyed. We want you to feel the consequences of this war. We will destroy and burn everything you have,” added the advisor to the head of the Presidential Office and noted that there are a number of safeguards that will help prevent a fatal scenario at the ZNPP.
– Firstly, to recognise that there are risks, not to pretend that there are no risks. Secondly, we need to recognise that these are risks associated with the nuclear industry. And thirdly, there is a plan proposed by Ukraine: a demilitarisation zone and the mandatory withdrawal of heavy equipment from Russia or just Russians in full. The staff is exclusively Ukrainian, if you want to deploy an IAEA monitoring mission there, go ahead,” Podolyak said.
He noted that in the context of the global community, there is one tool that is tough enough – sanctions against Rosatom.
Podolyak also said that this winter Russia may also resort to massive attacks on infrastructure.
