Bulgaria to hand over 100 armoured personnel carriers to Ukraine in autumn – media

Bulgaria will send about 100 armoured personnel carriers to Ukraine in September 2023.
This was announced by Bulgarian MP Ivailo Mirchev, one of the initiators of the project.
He explained that in early September, the parliament should finally ratify the transfer of 100 armoured personnel carriers to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, after which the equipment will be sent to Ukraine.
A proposal to transfer armoured vehicles to Ukraine was submitted to the Bulgarian parliament on 13 July, and on 21 July, MPs supported the delivery of a batch of armoured vehicles.
The armoured vehicles in question are mainly from the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ warehouses, which were produced in the 1960s and 1970s and were assigned to the internal troops in the 1980s.
According to Mirchev, this equipment has never been used, and some of the APCs are technically defective.
– “They have been gathering dust in warehouses for more than 40 years and only incur costs for their protection and maintenance,” the MP said.
By providing Ukraine with about 100 armoured personnel carriers, Bulgaria hopes to receive compensation from the United States, which would improve the defence capability of the Bulgarian army.
