Romania will increase its transit capacity for Ukrainian grain from 2 million tonnes to 4 million tonnes per month due to the constant shelling of Ukrainian ports, which intensified after Russia withdrew from the grain deal.

This was stated by Romanian Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Sorin Grindeanu, Agerpres reports.

– “We have agreed that the export of Ukrainian grain should be accelerated in the context of the known attacks on the Ukrainian ports of Reni and Izmail in recent weeks. During these meetings, we emphasised the importance of Romanian land, rail and sea transport routes to maintain a continuous flow of exports and imports from Ukraine,” he said.

“Following talks with representatives of the United States, the European Union, Moldova, Ukraine and Romania on alternative routes for transporting grain from Ukraine, the parties agreed that from the perspective of transport on the Danube, the Sulin Canal is the only viable waterway for these shipments, so it is important to optimise the capacity of this route.

– It was an extremely good and fruitful meeting, which will allow us, thanks to the measures we will take, to increase the transit capacity of grain from Ukraine through Romania. Thus, we will be able to reach the goal of almost 4 million tonnes per month compared to 2 million tonnes we have now,” the Minister said.

As a reminder, the head of the Defence Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, said that Ukraine would continue to export grain regardless of Russia’s wishes.
