The Russian army is increasingly engaging Iranian drones to attack Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. In total, Tehran intends to transfer 1,750 Shahed drones to Russia.

This was reported by analysts of the American Institute for the Study of War ISW.

According to American experts, the Russian Federation will use up 1,750 Iranian drones by May 2023, if the Russians launch them over Ukraine with the same frequency as in the period from September to December 2022.

According to the representative of the Main Directorate of Military Intelligence of Ukraine, Vadym Skibitskyi, the occupying army has already used about 660 Iranian-made Shahed-131 and -136 drones.

The spokesman of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, Yuriy Ignat, noted that Shahed kamikaze drones are more difficult to detect on radars, which is why the Russians use them more often.

According to Skibitskyi, the occupiers are using massive swarms of Shahed drones, as a small number of drones – from 5 to 10 – would not bring them the desired result.

The Russian Federation continues to seek further cooperation with Tehran in order to obtain even more high-precision weapons systems for the war in Ukraine.

Earlier, The New York Times wrote in an article that Ukraine has to shoot down cheap Iranian drones with expensive missiles. Yuriy Ignat, the spokesman of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, emphasized that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will continue to do so, because the consequences of drone attacks are mutilated infrastructure and human lives.
