There is not enough ballistics: Ignat explained why the Russian Federation is increasingly hitting Ukraine with S-300 missiles
The Russian occupying forces have begun to use S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems more often for strikes on the territory of Ukraine due to the reduction of their ballistic missile stocks.
This was announced today during an online briefing by the spokesman of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Ignat.
He confirmed that the enemy is increasingly hitting ground targets with S-300 missiles, as well as, probably, S-400. These missiles are designed “for anti-aircraft duels”: shooting down planes, helicopters, cruise missiles and drones.
– They are using them more and more often from Kharkiv all the way to the Mykolaiv region, and we see that they were hitting Kyiv. This shows that they have little ballistics. They have less than a hundred Iskanders left, according to the Main Directorate of Intelligence, – Ignat emphasized.
He added that the aggressor still has many S-300 missiles, and therefore tries to use them in conditions of shortage of missiles of other types.
– They are the manufacturers of these missiles. There are still a lot of them in warehouses, – Ignat said.
He also noted that the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system is a new Russian system that the occupiers will probably use less often. The range of this complex is hundreds of kilometers.
Ignat explained that the Air Force of the Armed Forces cannot shoot down anti-aircraft missiles now. It is possible to destroy S-300, S-400, as well as Kh-22 and ballistic missiles from the complexes that the partner countries promise to provide to Ukraine: Patriot PAC-3 and SAMP-T.
At the same time, Ignat suggested that our country will not immediately receive a sufficient number of these air defense systems to shoot down all the S-300 missiles in the air.
– They must be destroyed at the positions from which they strike. In the East, it is up to 150 km. The S-300 is actually an air defense system. They must be destroyed either by HARM missiles or obtained by other means, – he informed.
As you know, on Saturday, January 14, the Russian military first hit Kyiv with new S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems with a flight range of 230 km and a warhead weight of 180 kg.
Missiles for the S-300 and S-400 systems are inaccurate, and the Ukrainian air defense forces currently do not have the ability to shoot them down.
