The type of combat aircraft that Ukraine may receive from Western allies to fight against Russia’s full-scale aggression has been determined.

Yuriy Ihnat, spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said this during a national telethon.

He reminded that Ukraine had asked its partners to provide a multi-purpose aircraft at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops. This topic was raised by the top military leadership of our country and the leadership of the Ministry of Defense at various platforms.

So the topic of aircraft has never left the agenda.

– Without aviation, without reliable air cover, it is very difficult to carry out any combat operations at all,” Ihnat noted.

He clarified that Ukrainian military pilots traveled to the United States for training. Appropriate funds were allocated for this.

The type of aircraft that is likely to be provided to Ukraine and the corresponding training periods for not only the flight crew but also aviation engineers have already been determined. This is an extremely important component that we cannot do without,” Ihnat emphasized, without specifying what type of aircraft he was talking about.

He added that it is also important to prepare the infrastructure for Western-style combat aircraft. The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine will work to prepare Ukrainian military airfields to receive such equipment.

– “We are doing everything possible to make our dream of switching to this aircraft come true as soon as possible,” Ihnat said.

He explained that Western aircraft have a wide range of powerful, high-precision, long-range weapons that can hit targets at long distances. This means striking both air and ground targets.

This will significantly change the course of hostilities at the front in Ukraine.

As you know, during the eighth meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense (in the Ramstein format) on January 20, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the allies to consider providing Ukraine with F-16 fighters at the next, ninth meeting.

The President’s Office suggested that the ninth meeting in the Ramstein format, which could take place in February, would be dedicated to aviation. Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the Presidential Administration, assured that the supply of F-16 fighters has been unblocked, but it is too early to say when and how many of these aircraft Ukraine will receive.
